“BLUE NOSED BASTARDS OF BODNEY” -
Lt. Whisner’s P-51B is depicted with 3.5 aerial victories and three strafing victories. Whisner would end the war as a Captain with 15.5 aerial and three ground victories. The fighters unique nickname came about when a senior Eighth Air Force press officer suggested to Whisner’s CO that a suitably named Mustang might impress the future Queen of England during her impending visit to Bodney in May, 1944.
